Learn about Your Body System: How Does it work ?
Systems of the Human Body
The human body is a complex system.9 The human body uses many systems such as the digestive system, the nervous system, the respiratory system, etc. They work side by side. Some of the body systems are directly connected to the heart.
The human body is made up of different systems. These systems are made up oi different organs that perform specific functions. These organs are made up of tissues and tissues are made up of billions of cells.
Digestive system
The digestive system is a system of organs that converts food into energy. The digestive system is responsible for the digestion of food. Digestion breaks down food into nutrients that can be absorbed by the body for fuel, growth, and cell repair. The process of digestion involves fax essential steps: ingestion, propulsion, mechanical digestion, chemical digestion, absorption, and defecation. The digestive system is also called the gastrointestinal tract. The system includes the mouth, oesophagus, siomach, intestines, colon, rectum, and anus. The parts of other organ systems such as nerves and blood play an important role in the digestive system. The functions of the digestive system are controlled by hormones. These hormones are produced by cells in the mucosa of the stomach and small intestine.
Skeletal system
The skeletal system gives shape to the body. It provides support to the body and protects vital body organs. It also helps in the body's movements. It includes more than 200 bones and makes up about 18 per cent of the body’s weight. Bones are strong, yet light and Hexible. The skeletal system is divided into two distinct parts-the axial skeleton system and the appendicular skeletal system. The axial skeleton includes the skull, spinal column, sternum, and ribs. It is made up of 80 bones. The appendicular skeleton consists of bones of the upper and lower limbs. It is made up of 126 bones-64 bones in the shoulders and upper limbs and 62 in the pelvis and lower limbs.
Urinary system
The urinary system is the system that produces, stores, and carries urineThe primary function of the urinary system is to regulate water balance of the body and remove harmful substances from the blood. It consists of organs such as kidneys, meters, the urinary bladder, and the urethra. The urinary system works as a hltering mechanism for blood.
Endocrine system
The endocrine system is a collection of glands that produce hormones. Hormones are powerful substances that regulate the growrh of the body they are released into the bloodstream and transported to various body parts. They instruct cells about various activities like how to function or when to grow, divide, or dic.The major glands of the endocrine system are the hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, parathyroids, adrenals, pineal body, and the reproductive glands, which include the ovaries and testes.
Immune system
The immune system is a system that protects the body from foreign invasion. It is composed of antibodies and white blood cells. The primary and important function of the immune system is to destroy the foreign invaders, such as bacteria and viruses. The antibodies fight against disease causing bacteria, viruses, and pathogens. The immune system attacks and destroys the harmful substances through a series of steps called the immune response. The substances that can stimulate the immune response are known as antigens.
Circulatory system
The circulatory system consists of organs that circulate the blood through the body. It also picks up the waste products from the body to get rid of them. It also regulates the temperature of the body and carries some protective substances. It consists of the heart, blood, and blood vessels (arteries, veins, and capillaries). The heart is the pumping organ of the circulatory system. Arteries are the vessels that carry blood away from the heart. Veins are vessels that carry blood back to the heart. Capillaries are small vessels that connect the arteries to veins. They carry oxygen and nutrients to individual cells.
Muscular system
The muscular system is a system of muscles in the body. There are more than 600 muscles in the body. Muscles are found everywhere in the body. They are usually attached to the bones. They help in the movement of the human body. The movements include opening of the mouth, speaking, shaking hands, walking, talking, or smiling, blinking, and breathing. The largest muscle in the body is the ‘gluteus maximus’, located in the buttocks. The busiest muscles in the body are the eye muscles.
Reproductive system
The reproductive system consists of organs within men and women that regulate all sexual functions of the body. Reproduction is the biological process by which organisms produce off-springs. It is essential to keep a species alive. Both the male and female reproductive systems are necessan for reproduction. The reproductive svstem of a female includes the ovaries, the fallopian tubs, the uterus, the cervix, and the vagina. The male reproductive organ includes the prostate, the testes, and the penis.
Respiratory system
The respiratory system consists of organs that carry out the process of respiration. It is composed of the nose, the trachea, and a pair of lungs. The primary function of the respiratory system is to supply the blood with : oxygen. The blood delivers oxygen to all parts of the body through the process of breathing.Breathing involves the acts of inhaling and exhaling. Inhaling is the process in which lungs take in air and exhaling is a process by which the lungs expel air. The respiratory system is also known as respiratory tract.
